why so many Microsoft accounts

Hi all

I am quite confused with this confusing number of Microsoft accounts. I would really like to know what Microsoft would do to stream line the accounts

1. I have a traditional Hotmail account (create much before Hotmail was a Microsoft property). Since then Microsoft has gone through many transitions. But always my trustry Hotmail account was integrated to all of there services. It was always a one account to manage, one password to remember (no matter how complex it was ).

2. Now we have another Microsoft account (that was created with office 365) for some reason they could not do the simple job of linking my Hotmail account to office365 subscription. I understand the need to have new domains as 365 host other domains, but at least a way to link the main subscription account would have being lovely

3. Now to make things even more complicated the term "Microsoft Account" does not mean the same.  Microsoft account in O365 is something else, where as in all other places Microsoft Account means our traditional mail account (Hotmail, live etc,.). Also o365 trial account is different from proper o365b account.

(Looks like someone in Microsoft thought, hmmm we would have to spend few day on finding a way to integrate these accounts it gonna cost 100,000USD. but lets make a copy of the current system, so we don't have to change the software, but we can spend 10 millionUSD supporting two systems)

I would really like to get more clarification on how Microsoft handle these accounts and is there a roadmap to consolidate them. It would be nice to have go back to the era where there was one Microsoft account and it works in any part of Microsoft echo system

Cheers

K.C
